Prayer heals blood poisoning
One spring I sprayed our grass with a mixture of fertilizer and weed killer. Some time later a small lump formed on one finger. It became infected and gradually worsened, with evidence of blood poisoning. I decided to turn to God for healing. In prayer, I reasoned that I was made in God's image. My true identity was spiritual. Being spiritual, it could not be invaded by anything bad or impure. God made me good, that is, well, healthy, free from discomfort and disease. He was protecting me and guiding every aspect of my life.
I asked a Christian Science practitioner to give me treatment through prayer, as well. My wife and I were preparing to visit family in England. I was concerned that the condition of the finger might interfere with our journey. As a result of the practitioner's help, the finger improved greatly, and we were able to proceed on our overseas trip with confidence that the complete healing would come.
One day while in London, however, I found that the infection had spread from my hand up my arm to my shoulder. Once again I turned to God in prayer for healing. My wife and I had both been raised in families where the practice of Christian Science was our way of life. We had seen and personally experienced many healings through prayer. We had also raised our four children in the understanding of God's love and care for them, and had witnessed many healings of various childhood illnesses and problems in our family life through prayer alone. That's why we had no hesitation in again relying on God for healing in this situation.
