God's line is never busy

Daily I check my e-mail, voice mail, interoffice mail, and of course, the "old-fashioned" mail. There are countless ways of communicating—overnight delivery, cellular telephone, pager, fax, and the Internet. However, things still break down. Transmissions get lost. Machines malfunction. Phone numbers and addresses change.

But there is one line of communication that never breaks: our link to God. He doesn't put us on hold, refer us to another department, or interrupt our prayers because of incoming calls. The line to God is never busy or under repair. He answers immediately. The book of Isaiah tells us of God's promise "Before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear" (Isa. 65:24).

The instant we turn to God with a simple prayer, a thought, or even a desire, He hears and answers. And we don't need anyone else to get our message to Him. While others may be called upon to help us through prayer, all answers actually come directly from God. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in her book Science and Health, "Not personal intercommunion but divine law is the communicator of truth, health, and harmony to earth and humanity" (p. 72).
