Honesty all around

Trust in God is never misplaced.

As I was returning home from work on the train, two women were chatting nearby. I heard one of them say, "You just can't trust anyone but God." I felt like saying, "Amen." But as I thought about their remark, I realized that I've learned that I can trust God's sons and daughters. The identity God created in His image is saintly not sinful, satisfied not jealous.

After I began studying Christian Science, I learned that I couldn't see myself as God's image if I was seeing a neighbor or anyone else as dishonest or sinful or even crabby. And I knew I must be totally honest myself. Speaking of this necessity, Science and Health says: "Honesty is spiritual power. Dishonesty is human weakness, which forfeits divine help" (p. 453).

I've often experienced the rewards of recognizing that God made everyone perfect and trustworthy. When my children were small, we were on a very tight budget. One Friday afternoon when I got back home after grocery shopping, I found that a twenty-dollar bill was missing from my wallet. It must have fallen out when I paid for the groceries. At that time the loss of this money would have put us in a sad state of affairs. I couldn't go right back to the store, because I had to prepare dinner for the family.
