Child prays and is healed
Recently I became sick with a cold and was coughing. Because I felt so weak, I was not able to attend school. Each day my friends would telephone and tell me how much class work I missing. This worried me a lot, as I didn't want to fall behind.
Right from the start, my parents and I were happy to rely on Christian Science to heal me. My mother and I prayed with the Bible verse that says, "In him [God] we live, and move, and have our being . . . . For we are also his offspring" (Acts 17:28). This assured us of my relation to our Father-Mother God. We knew that as God's child, I truly lived, moved, and existed in God's universe. We reasoned that God's pure and holy environment could never foster sickness—only goodness, harmony, peace, and health. I knew that illness could not be part of me as God's child. Sickness was a lie about my real being. We needed to stop believing this lie.
I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner and asked her to pray with me. I also thought about my favorite passage in Science andHealth: "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (p. 494). It helped me understand that everything I needed to know I would know, as God gave me the capacity to do so.
