God is in control

Do you like horses? I do, and I have always loved to ride. When I was in sixth grade, my best friend Jane had a horse named Fletcher. We lived in the country, and Jane and I spent hours together up on Fletcher's back, riding through the fields and woods in our neighborhood.

One snowy Saturday in January we decided to ride bareback. At first I rode in front, but Fletcher was so eager to gallop that we decided to change places. Jane, who was stronger than I, could hold the pinto when he wanted to run.

We both slid off, and I easily boosted Jane back up. But getting back on wasn't so easy for me. It was always hard to swing up behind Jane when we rode bareback, and that winter day, wearing two layers of jeans and heavy boots, I just couldn't do it. We looked around for a rock for me to stand on, but the only thing we found was a skinny stump just peeking out of a snowdrift. It certainly wasn't the best mounting block. Each time I tried to slide my right leg over Fletcher's back, either I lost my balance or Fletcher stepped away.
