To Our Readers

We CELEBRATE life . That's What the human spirit so easily and readily does. We take joy in every sign of newness and freshness. The first buds on the Willow trees in the spring. A Puppy curled in our arms. The laughter of children on a playground.

And despite the cynics or reductionists, our celebrations of life, the spontaneous joy we feel, are so much more than some sort of psychological defense mechanism or a highly evolved biological response rooted in primitive survival instincts. Doesn't the joy for life really reflect something inherent in our spiritual nature as sons and daughters of God? Because God is eternal, divine Life, and His creation—each of us—actually reflects that Life, we can't help but celebrate the beauty and wonder of the life we see around us. We naturally love life. Life is a joy.

Yet in human experience we still confront issues of death and dying. These are hard issues. They demand love, comfort, clear thinking—inspired thinking. This week's Cover Story is by David C. Driver. His article is titled "Beyond death and dying: issues of Life." And the editorial at the back of the magazine by Mary Trammell is "Turning shadow of death into light of morning." In these pages we think you'll find a spiritual perspective that is both comforting and liberating.
