How changing my thoughts led to a change in my weight

Several years ago I noticed that I was gaining weight. I am not obsessive about weight or size, but I knew this rapid gain was not normal, and I felt that I needed to do something about it.

Several of my friends had tried diets to lose weight. Sometimes they were successful; often they weren't. I had little confidence in diets because diets don't address the cause of the problem.

I knew that the underlying cause of being overweight (or underweight) is mental and has to do with the beliefs we entertain about food and appetites. These beliefs are founded on the misconception that we are, basically, material beings, dependent on different forms of matter for life, strength, and health. Yet Science and Health states that "Christian Science explains all cause and effect as mental, not physical" (p. 114).
