One Sunday morning, when I woke up very early, I was unable to move the lower part of my body. Immediately I declared, "Mind is the source of all movement, and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual and harmonious action" (Science and Health, p. 283). I clung to this thought for the next three hours. Then, in order to call a Christian Science practitioner for more spiritual help, I literally fell out of bed and, inch by inch, slid along the floor to the telephone in the adjacent hall.
When eventually I lifted the receiver, it was eight o'clock. I told the practitioner what had taken place. Immediately he quoted the same passage that I had been holding on to for those three hours! He said that of course he would pray for me. I was able to lift my arm and replace the receiver.
Then I thought, "What am I doing lying down here?" And in my thought I heard a command: "Arise and shine." Instantly I got up, and was able to dress and cook my breakfast.
