"Put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou...
"Put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground" (Ex. 3:5) was God's command to Moses. Many times in my life I have felt as if I were standing on holy ground, too, and this is due to Christian Science.
When my mother was nine years old, she was healed of spinal meningitis through Christian Science treatment, and this healing served as a milestone for the whole family. We have experienced numerous physical healings, not to mention the constant protection and guidance and a recognition of the normalcy of divine goodness.
A few years ago, during the night I was wakened by our toddler, who needed my help. I got up, hugged him, spoke a few words, changed his clothes, and he went peacefully back to sleep. Upon leaving his room, however, I was overwhelmed with a sudden attack of excruciating pain such as I had never experienced before. As we had guests in our house, practically every room was occupied. I was able to reach the bathroom and sat down on the floor. I felt miserable and lonely, and I needed immediate help. I can still feel today the hope that lighted up in my thinking when I remembered that I had help right at hand: God is my Physician, as the Bible assures us, saying, for example, "I am the Lord that healeth thee" (Ex. 15:26).
