AN INTERVIEW
Spiritual transformation and the drug scene: uncovering a "piece of gold"
When your life has been changed in some wonderful way, you can't help but share the good news with those around you. John Totterdale is a young man who's done just that. As a junior high school student, he started drinking and doing drugs with some older skateboarding buddies. It wasn't until his grades began to plummet that his parents found out.
John and his mother sought the assistance of an experienced Christian Scientist. "The prayer work, the love, was so gentle ...," says John. "God was always there for me if I slipped or if I took a wrong turn—He would be there to lead me back, like a shepherd with his sheep."
Gradually, through prayer and study of the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly, John completely overcame the desire to drink and get high. His turnaround is remarkable in and of itself. But what we think you will be especially interested in hearing is how he was led a short time later to help a friend with an even more desperate need. Here are excerpts from John's recent conversation with the Sentinel staff.
