The Beatitudes: God is the source of true happiness
Part two
The Beatitudes tell us a lot about true happiness and where it comes from. Happiness doesn't really depend on having the latest video game, lots of fancy clothes, or taking a trip to an amusement park. Games and parks and new clothes aren't wrong. The point is they don't contain happiness. And not having them doesn't take it away.
This is the second article in a two-part series that talks about the Beatitudes, important rules to live by, given to us by Christ Jesus nearly two thousand years ago. (The first part of the series appeared in the Sentinel of September 2, 1996.) You can find all the Beatitudes in the Bible (Matt. 5:3–12). This article also includes comments from Sunday School pupils at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Evergreen, Colorado, who wanted to share how they are finding the Beatitudes helpful today. Courtnay Douglas, a member of the Sentinel staff, helped in the writing as well.
Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.
