In May of last year my husband of over thirty-five years passed...

In May of last year my husband of over thirty-five years passed on unexpectedly. I was at his side, and the understanding I had gained in Christian Science of man's eternal life was invaluable in sustaining me. Shortly before his death the thought came to me that during our life together there had been a few things in the marriage that I had hoped could have been different. I immediately and unconditionally forgave those differences.

With this forgiveness a purer and higher affection so permeated my consciousness that at his passing I was buoyed by the power of divine Love. It seemed that Love was bolstering both of us. It was a profound experience, one that reminded me of Mary Baker Eddy's words in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: "One moment of divine consciousness, or the spiritual understanding of Life and Love, is a foretaste of eternity. This exalted view, obtained and retained when the Science of being is understood, would bridge over with life discerned spiritually the interval of death, and man would be in the full consciousness of his immortality and eternal harmony, where sin, sickness, and death are unknown" (p. 598).
