Not too long ago, The New York Times printed a front-page article with the headline "For more and more Job Seekers, An Aging Parent is a Big Factor." This is just one facet of the public attention being given to aging and to the challenges that are believed to be associated with it.
But do advancing years necessarily include decline, decay, and sickness? A glance through the pages of the Old Testament in the Bible shows vigorous people who lived well beyond what is considered a normal lifespan, primarily because they had developed a deep and abiding closeness to God. This relation is one that all of us have, and we can discover it right now—whether we're sixteen or sixty.
The authors of the articles "in focus" this week show in practical ways how such a spiritual way of living brings health and independence.
