INTRODUCTION TO THE BIBLE
The prophecy and birth of Christ Jesus
Have you ever looked through a telescope? It is an instrument that helps you see things that are far away. If you could see a good friend coming, you'd want to let everyone know and you'd get ready to welcome him or her. If, on the other hand, you could see an enemy, you'd want to let people know so they could take steps to stay safe.
A prophet is a spiritual seer. That means that he or she sees what God has shown him or her. And you don't need a telescope for that!
There are many prophets in the Bible. The prophets were close to God. They knew what God wanted people to do. You might say they were also like "watchdogs" in that they reminded people about the importance of following God when they were ignoring or disobeying Him.
