Science and Health changes a life
As a child, I often suffered from painful earaches. One time I had been in that sad state for several days and there had been no relief. The family doctor had visited me; I had faithfully taken all of the medicine recommended by the doctor, but still I continued to be in pain. "Shouldn't prayer help with this?" I said to my mother, but Mother had no reply.
After Mother had gone to bed, Father came into my room and quietly told me that he had been worried about my illness and that he was going to call "the lady." At the time, I didn't know exactly what my father meant, but later I learned that he was going to ask a practitioner to give me Christian Science treatment. This meant that the practitioner would apply to my case through prayer the spiritual truths that Christ Jesus employed in his healing work. The practitioner's affirmation of my spiritual nature and my inseparability from God was effective.
The next morning as I passed his room on my way to the bathroom, my father called out, "How do you feel?" I answered: "Fine. I'm all better." There was no more pain or suffering; all traces of the illness had completely vanished! I never forgot that healing; it made a great impression on me, but I had no idea who or what had healed me. At the time, my father refused to talk about it.
