FOR CHILDREN
Daniel in the lions' den
It pleased King Darius to put a hundred and twenty princes over the whole kingdom. See the story of Daniel in the book of Daniel in the Bible, chapter 6 . He was going to put Daniel over all of them. The princes did not like this. They made a plan to do away with Daniel. One day the princes went up to Darius and said, "Make a law that anyone who does not worship you will be thrown into the den of lions." Darius liked that idea.
Then, the princes watched for Daniel to pray to God. When Daniel next prayed to God, the princes caught him and told the king. "Darius, you said to kill anyone that did not worship you." The king was horrified. He liked Daniel. But he had to obey his own law. He told his soldiers to put Daniel into the den of lions. That night the king could not even sleep. He was so upset. First thing the next morning, he ran to the lions' den. He ran and yelled, "Daniel, did God save you?" And Daniel said, "Yes, my Lord hath shut the lions' mouths because innocence was found in me." Darius was so happy, he pulled Daniel out of the den.
God is man's real Father-Mother. Daniel prayed to God three times a day. I have been afraid of being away from my mom and dad, and the story of Daniel has helped me to remember to pray to God and to know that I can never be apart from God.
