A book of "living waters"

More and more people today are sharing inspirational books and pamphlets. People are feeling a need for an uplifting or life-affirming thought that will give a spiritual focus to their day—or that will act as a spiritual life preserver when things are going wrong. But often the time comes when they feel the need for something stronger, something that will disturb the status quo, something that will last longer than a day, something that will change life—their life.

All this reveals an important trend: a receptivity to and hunger for something higher and more spiritually satisfying, something that goes deeper and has a profounder effect than many people are currently finding.

If we are thinking along these lines, a promise Christ Jesus made to those searching for spiritual inspiration and understanding is significant. During his Sermon on the Mount, he told the multitudes, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened" (Matt. 7:7, 8). Jesus taught that we have an inherent spiritual ability to perceive the truths that we need and to benefit from them.
