When I was preparing to get married in 1964, it wasn't obligatory to have any kind of medical examination in my native country of Brazil. Therefore I didn't know the status of my blood type and Rh factor.

During my first pregnancy, in compliance with the Argentine laws, I went to an obstetrician and had the examinations that the country mandated. There I found out that my blood type was not compatible with that of my husband. This fact, I was told, should be taken very seriously, since it could cause the baby to have jaundice at birth, and might mean it would need a complete blood transfusion.

The first thing that I did on finding out about this was to turn to a Christian Science practitioner to find help in understanding more about God and man, through prayer.
