Early one morning a severe pain in my neck woke me
Early one morning a severe pain in my neck woke me. Within a few days, the pain had enveloped my whole body, and I was almost paralyzed. I called a Christian Science practitioner who prayed diligently for me for about six months, but I was not diligently striving to understand the truths of Christian Science myself; and healing did not come. As I lead a very active life, the immobility was very alarming to me.
My family became concerned and insisted that I have the condition diagnosed. I released the practitioner, and they made an appointment for me with a doctor. But he could neither locate the illness nor identify the condition; all he could do was offer me pills for the pain, which I felt did not have any power to help me, so I did not use them. When the condition grew even worse, my family took me to another doctor. His nurse phoned later and said that she had reserved a room for me in a hospital; I was to go in the next day for more tests.
I decided not to go to the hospital but to call a relative who is a practitioner and find out what she had to say. I'll never forget the love she expressed so naturally. What relief I felt when she simply assured me that Christian Science heals. She didn't advise me; she did open the door for me to rely on Christian Science exclusively and invited me to come visit her if I wanted to have healing through Christian Science practice. I had previously had many such healings, and this was just what I yearned to hear.
