The beauty of healing through prayer is that both the lessons learned and the resulting physical improvements are permanent.
Some years ago I was skating recreationally, when I fell and dislocated my shoulder. Because I am a former Olympic skater, and should have been able to avoid the mishap, I was flooded with self-critical thoughts of having been careless. The pain was severe.
I called for the help of a Christian Science practitioner, who reminded me that there is "no separation/Between my Lord and me" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 135). This calmed my thought, and I began praying to affirm the truth about man's wholeness and completeness in God. The shoulder moved quickly back into place, and I was able to navigate myself home alone in my stick-shift car.
