The ever-present Christ

"This healing power of Truth must have been far anterior to the period in which Jesus lived. It is as ancient as 'the Ancient of days.'" (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 146)

The truth that Jesus lived and taught,
The rock on which we build;
The cloud by day, the fire by night,
The treasure in the field.

The light that routs the darkness;
As in the beginning, the Word;
The power of God, the priceless pearl,
The voice Elijah heard.

The Shepherd's caring for the sheep;
The always "open door";
The burning bush, the precious seed,
The ladder Jacob saw.

God's love dispelling mortal dreams
(The people fed and healings done);
The Father coming out to meet
The homeward-turning son.

To us branches, the living vine;
In three measures of meal, the leaven;
Divinity embracing humanity,
The eternal bread of heaven.

Through ascension Jesus left our midst,
The blessed messenger is gone;
But still here with us is the truth—
The message must live on.
