A few months ago I heard a talk on the Lord's Prayer and the healing power it conveys. It reminded me that I had had a wonderful healing several years ago, proving Mrs. Eddy's observation in Science and Health that this prayer "covers all human needs" (p. 16).
Late one night I woke to find my whole body shaking. Fear almost overwhelmed me, particularly as I could not, in that situation, telephone a Christian Science practitioner. I knew that fear had to be destroyed as a first step in effecting a healing, and I literally shouted, three times, "Peace, be still" (see Mark 4:39). Immediately the fear disappeared, and I was able to commence Christian Science treatment for this condition; my utterance had established mental peace.
My thought went straight to the Lord's Prayer, and to its spiritual interpretation as found in Science and Health. This was no idle, parrotlike repetition, but an in-depth study of the prayer. I took each statement in these words from Jesus, and sought to understand what he was conveying to us. At the same time I studied each relevant statement from the spiritual interpretation given by Mrs. Eddy. And each statement helped to strengthen my understanding of God's power as supreme over all material conditions. I received enlightenment and spiritual understanding, and eventually fell asleep. When I woke again a few hours later, I was well, and jumped out of bed completely healed.
