Ever since I was seven years old, I had a quest for the truth that led me to examine several Christian denominations. Understanding the teachings of each, but unable to accept any of them completely, I began searching other religions—also to no avail.
In my teen years I gave up hope and turned to drugs and alcohol for comfort. My life went downhill over the next few years, and reached the bottom one day when, after an auto accident I had caused while driving drunk, I lost in one day my transportation, job, housing, and any friends I may have had up to that point.
That evening I remember seeing the most beautiful sunset and yet feeling so miserable inside that, with tears in my eyes, I said aloud that I didn't even know if there was a God or not, but if there was, I was all His now. Without Him I had certainly made such a mess of everything.
