The real attraction
Pretty soon nearly everyone in the large dining hall full of college students was looking toward one corner of the ceiling. It wasn't that anything was happening in that corner. It was just that, as a prank, the students at one table had decided to stare silently at that corner of the ceiling until everyone's attention was drawn in that direction.
What is drawing your attention? Is there really anything going on there? Is there any real attraction drawing you in that direction—anything having the power to attract you? Christian Science declares: "There is but one real attraction, that of Spirit. The pointing of the needle to the pole symbolizes this all-embracing power or the attraction of God, divine Mind" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 102).
Attraction is inherent in the spiritual oneness of God and His creation, Mind and idea. Infinite Mind causes its own idea, man and the universe, to dwell in Mind, to adhere to Mind, and to reflect Mind in substance and in nature. There is no other attraction. There is nothing apart from the infinity of good to draw man away from God. And there is nothing in man, God's spiritual reflection, where with he could be drawn in any other direction. Man—the genuine identity of each of us—is wholly spiritual. Whatever claims to be an attraction apart from God is a bogus attraction, a counterfeit. There is nothing really going on there. Neither God nor man is a participant. Christ Jesus proved these facts of divine Science to be true. His spirituality was inseparable from God—wholly invulnerable to false attraction. That's the way it is with spirituality.
