Giving glory to God by loving unconditionally
"Peace on earth" is not just a Christmas sentiment. It's a call for us to love our neighbors and co-workers in a much deeper way.
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men" (Luke 2:14). Undoubtedly we heard this Bible verse many times over this Christmas season. Or we may have heard the familiar abridged version: "Peace on earth, good will to men."
But I've come to see that in order to realize greater peace on earth, the elements of this statement cannot be broken up. In other words, peace on earth comes as the result of glorifying God, divine Love, to the highest degree.
How can this be done? How can we glorify God, Love, in a way that results in peace and harmony—in a way that actually gets rid of the discord in our lives? It starts within consciousness by having one God in our affections and actions, and by realizing that God is the only Mind of man, the one Ego, who imparts only ideas of love and goodness. We need also to recognize that since God is Love itself and man is His likeness, in truth man isn't capable even of knowing anything contrary to Love. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, "To infinite, ever-present Love, all is Love, and there is no error, no sin, sickness, nor death" (p. 567).
