Actors, singers, dancers—all performers are forever going...
Actors, singers, dancers—all performers are forever going to auditions. Auditions seem very competitive. As a television and radio actress and singer, I had many. And as a Christian Scientist, I took time before each one to realize that I could express only the qualities and intelligence of God. I especially loved the proverb "Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established" (Prov. 16:3).
On a bus one day, going to an audition I had prepared for diligently, I saw clearly that I was not going to get something but to give of my God-given talents, which I had studied and worked to develop. Here was a joyous opportunity to give, and not to compete. Each auditioner was governed by the one divine Mind, God. Therefore, no matter who got the job, it must be a step of progress for each of us; one could not gain and all others lose.
Suddenly I felt free! At the audition I continued to think about these facts. Evidently others felt this, because afterward one of the women said, so all could hear, "Sue seems to have the right approach to auditions. What is it, Sue?"
