As early as when my daughter's baby teeth came in, it was...

As early as when my daughter's baby teeth came in, it was evident that they were not well aligned. When her permanent teeth began coming in, a dentist recommended that she wear braces. He added that they could not be put on until the permanent teeth were completely in, which would take several years. (I was no stranger to praying about teeth, since several years earlier I had been healed in Christian Science of having "soft teeth," which were prone to decay.)

I pondered the answer to the question "What is substance?" on page 468 of Science and Health. It begins, "Substance is that which is eternal and incapable of discord and decay." And most every day I took some time to recognize on our daughter's behalf that man is a spiritual idea, made by God "in his own image" (Gen. 1:27). God did not make man and then leave him. God and His creation coexist. I learned that the laws of God result only in purity, power, strength, freedom, and goodness for man. There is no opposing material law to displace or deform the perfection of infinite Mind and its manifestation.

When it was time for our daughter's regular appointment with the dentist, I prayed particularly fervently to know that God's man cannot accept, embrace, or confirm evil of any sort. When I asked our daughter how long it had been since the dentist had mentioned her wearing braces, she replied this had only been mentioned the one time. During the time we were praying about this, a particular healing of the need for braces, told on a cassette tape produced by The Christian Science Publishing Society, helped us very much. I knew the healing was complete when, after the distribution of her school picture, four individuals commented separately on how beautiful and straight her teeth were.
