"The fountain can rise no higher than its source"
(See Science and Health 18:17)
Even prayer has no hope
of scrambling any higher
than its source and reconciling
God to our desire.
We can't define Him with our
expectations which have been
scaled down or modified to fit
the hopes and fears of men.
However confident or sure,
the source remains above
belief and overcomes it.
Absolute and perfect Love
enlightens, stirs up inquiry
until no answer stands
where doctrine claims a victory
or puts into our hands,
as if a gift, a self-esteem,
a smart contented pride
in being right—imagining
ourselves self-justified.
Even Jesus had no hope
of celestial being
until he shed the world's opinions
with complete conceding.
