Many years ago I had a bladder infection, which was treated medically. When the symptoms reappeared later, after I had become a more serious student of Christian Science, I began praying to understand my spiritual freedom from disease. I was confident of healing.
When the infection became more severe, I felt I needed help. I was away from home, but in my wallet I had the telephone number of a friend who I knew was available to give Christian Science treatment through prayer. She was not home at the time, but I left a message on her answering machine. I had been praying all day with a statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy: "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea." I learned later that when she received the call, my friend thought of this same statement.
Together, we studied the ninety-first Psalm, Mrs. Eddy's explanation of God in Science and Health, and many other statements from the Christian Science textbook. Pages 413:7–9, 420:17, 393:18–21, and 412:24 were particularly helpful to us.
