I am profoundly grateful that I was brought up as a Christian Scientist in a home where we were encouraged to turn to God in prayer whenever there was a need. I remember that so-called children's diseases, hurts, and the effects of accidents were quickly healed. In my adult years I have continued to experience the power of scientific prayer to heal. Impacted wisdom teeth grew through painlessly without the need for the extractions a dentist had predicted.

On another occasion a bout of strep throat that left me hoarse was healed when I discerned the spiritual significance of this statement in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy: "The power of Christian Science and divine Love is omnipotent. It is indeed adequate to unclasp the hold and to destroy disease, sin, and death." This healing proved to be so decisive that susceptibility to sore throats in the winter months was eliminated.

Later, mumps was quickly healed when I saw clearly that because God is good, good truly is more powerful and more contagious than evil. By firmly denying the existence of disease on the basis of the allness of God (and, therefore, the nothingness of anything unlike God), I realized that in the light of spiritual reality, I could catch only good.
