Several years ago as I was praying for direction in my career...
Several years ago as I was praying for direction in my career, I felt led to enroll in a graduate program in a new field of study. Toward the end of this program, companies came to campus to interview students for employment. But I was repeatedly turned down by firms because I had less job-related experience than fellow graduate students.
As I sought God's guidance, it occurred to me that God would lead me to progress. Whenever I was afraid, I would pray to understand better God's complete care, and I began to concentrate more on expressing spiritual qualities.
The day of a particularly important interview, I woke up feeling ill. Before the interview I randomly opened the Christian Science Hymnal to Hymn 97. The second verse, which includes the passage "Let not fear thy thoughts employ," met my immediate need for comfort and healing. I saw that I could only be employed by God, not by fear. The symptoms soon disappeared as I calmly trusted God's direction. Shortly thereafter I was hired by the firm I interviewed with that day and have enjoyed a most fulfilling and challenging job there.
