Church reveals the light of Christ
When the light of Christ is shining in our hearts, we can be sure it's also shining in our church.
IT'S not unusual to think of church as a place of worship. I remember vividly a small, modest church where I was once a member. It was furnished with wicker chairs and had heavy wooden shutters that opened outward each Sunday to let in the sound of roosters echoing across the Caribbean hillside.
It's not unusual to think of church as a group of fellow worshipers. After twenty years and infrequent contacts, I still think of the members of this particular church as dear friends.
Yet the substance of church is more than a house of worship and the worshipers within. As understood in Christian Science, Church is a divine idea. It is the power of God, of divine Truth and Love, revealing itself to mankind through the ministrations of Christ. It's this spiritual activity that makes a church service a healing experience. When worshipers come together for the sole purpose of knowing God better—and helping others do the same—then church is a transforming power in people's lives.
