A short time before my mother was to be married, she became ill and went to a physician. His examination revealed that she had tuberculosis and was not expected to live. Her mother had just become interested in Christian Science and gave her a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and suggested she read it.
For three days and nights my mother drank in the truth she was reading. At the end of that time she felt well, so she returned to the doctor for an examination. Her healing was confirmed. She was then married in a few weeks, as originally planned. The healing was permanent, just from reading and studying Science and Health. Thus began my mother's devotion to the study of Christian Science.
When I was three years old I was enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School. The first healing I recall took place when I was about eight years of age. I was healed in two weeks of a serious case of rheumatic fever through the prayers of my mother and a Christian Science practitioner.
