The forty-sixth Psalm states that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." This has been a source of inspiration to me for most of my adult life. As a child I was not very strong and was prone to frequent illness and accident. I married, but I grew weaker and less active. Widowed early, I first turned to the study of Christian Science for solace and direction.
Another marriage brought greater demands as both my husband and I had children by our former marriages. For twenty years we also kept foster children in our home. Including our own, we averaged about six children at any one time. During this time we lived on farms where we grew our own food. Through the study of Christian Science, the weakness and constant illness were overcome, and I was strengthened to meet the many demands and challenges of this vigorous family and lifestyle.
More recently, a relative invited me to visit him at his summer home. I gladly accepted, thinking that the remote location would give me an opportunity for quiet study. At that time I was struggling with lameness in my legs and pain in my back. Besides the discomfort, this hindered me in my normal activities.
