For years I suffered intensely from menstrual cramps

For years I suffered intensely from menstrual cramps. I would often have to spend the better part of a day in bed. When I was in college, one morning as I prayed in preparation for my day, I considered how prayer could help me with this problem. The thought came to me that God is man's Life and that Life is the law of health. I reasoned that because my health was based squarely on this law it was inviolable and perfect. When I began to have cramps again later that day, I held to these spiritual truths, and the pain subsided. That was the first time in years that I was able to proceed with my activities as planned during such times. It also marked the end of the suffering. During the intervening twelve years I have been free of this trouble.

Several years after this healing I had a severe bladder infection. I had been praying about this condition for some time. When a physician attending my pregnancy noticed it, he took some tests. If I tested positive, he said, he would prescribe medication. I had never taken medication and had always relied on Christian Science for healing.

I had three days before the test results would be ready. The first day was filled with doubt and discouragement. I was tempted to doubt that this situation could be healed through spiritual means alone. As I continued searching my heart and praying for guidance, I finally realized that God had never abandoned me and that the solution was not to be found in medical means. I had a growing sense of God's love for me and a firm conviction that God, good, was in control of the entire situation.
