One Saturday afternoon as I was walking along doing some shopping, suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my foot. At first I gave it little attention, but soon the foot began to swell and become discolored. I made my way to my car and drove home, praying for myself as I drove.
Once home I called a Christian Science practitioner for treatment through prayer. Together we affirmed man's innate perfection as God's spiritual child, and I was comforted by our talk. I then telephoned a Christian Science nurse in our area who responded quickly to my call. She came and expressed much love and joy as she attended to my needs.
I had been wondering whether I should have the condition diagnosed by a doctor. The "what ifs" and "supposings" raced through my mind one after another. However, as I reasoned things through, it was clear to me that this was an opportunity to prove the healing power of God by relying fully on Him. I was strengthened by this prayer in the Bible, in Jeremiah: "Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise." It came to me clearly that God's spiritual creation, man, can never be out of alignment with Him but is upheld by His law.
