"Last month his parents went on trial in Massachusetts, charged with manslaughter. If the issue were one of bludgeoning, burning, brain damage from blows to the head, or some other external physical abuse, it would be hard to find anyone in sympathy with the parents.
"But the issue is not manslaughter by anything the Twitchells committed. They are being tried for a crime of omission. They refused to get modern medical treatment for their son.
