The following experience became a milestone to me in my study and practice of Christian Science. Our two-and-a-half-year-old daughter fell very ill. For years we had been turning to God in caring for all the members of our family, even in cases of illness. I prayed earnestly, and a Christian Science practitioner lovingly supported me in this.
As I sought for a better understanding of God and man, I became calm. I realized that this child's true God-created selfhood is spiritual, wholly under God's care and love. This inspiration came with such a calm certainty that I accepted it wholly. While I was still sitting there, I heard our daughter climbing out of bed. Shortly, she was completely healed, full of joy and vitality.
Another healing that I'm very grateful for occurred more than twenty years ago. Heart complaints were giving me so much trouble that I didn't go out of the house alone. I had fear to overcome, including fear of death. I mentioned this to a practitioner, who was praying for me, and she said with great clarity that the living God determines what happens to me and my life. At that moment I gained an awareness of God as Life, as a living power and presence. And as I began to understand more and more that divine Love determines the rhythm and permeates all the details of man's life, controlling and governing it, I was completely healed of the heart trouble.
