Our daily joy
Real joy doesn't come and go. Nor can it run out. With God, our joy is deep, infinite, and unshakable.
[Original in German]
Once on a radio program I heard a clergyman speaking on joy. He said that when he prays the Lord's Prayer, he adds to the petition for daily bread a petition for daily joy. I liked this so much I have adopted it for myself. From it I have learned that joy is indeed a component of our daily spiritual nourishment.
Every individual yearns for reliable—not just occasional and rare—happiness. And that is our God-given right. But there are varying views as to what constitutes this joy and how one can obtain it. For many, for example, joy would depend on a first-rate professional situation, a successful career. Others place their hope for happiness on finding the right marriage partner or hitting the winning number in the lottery or sweepstakes. The list of the ways and means with which one hopes to attain this desired goal varies greatly.
