Christmas found
Look not back, it is not there.
It is our very own to bear.
Feel not one slightest day removed
From what the childlike mother proved.
To each of us a child is born.
Unhistoried, the holy morn
Is ours—in every blessed way;
As present as this present day.
What shepherds felt and saw and sought
First was found within—and brought
To birth in fields. (Long before they saw
The babe, the light instilled their awe.)
The same light beckons us today:
Come see where the Christ child lay.
So look not back, but look within:
Fathered by God, and free from sin,
To you the tender Christ is given.
