What we see and what we get
Wysiwyg —an acronym you sometimes see in computer magazines.
It stands for "What you see is what you get." There's a direct, straightforward relationship between what you see on the computer screen and what you have when that information is printed out.
But so much of what we see these days isn't truly what we get at all—whether it's in regard to sweepstakes mailings, lottery promotion, or certain kinds of product advertising. There's no question that the power and frequency of communication have increased incredibly. But clarification and understanding may not always be keeping pace.
