Can distance separate united hearts?
Could we ever be kept apart from God, if He is truly ever present? And in God's presence do we ever need to feel distant from one another?
We have all known the joy of working harmoniously with those joined in a worthwhile project. Local farmers combine their efforts and skills to help a neighbor build a barn. A natural disaster often draws neighbors together in mutual support for one another. Recently our community sponsored a special cleanup day which brought local citizens together through a common cause.
There are times, however, when we are tempted to think we would lose that wonderful spirit of cooperation if we should be physically separated from each other. We ask, Will our independent efforts be just as effective when we're apart? How can we feel united in purpose when time or space separates us?
We can acknowledge that God, divine Mind, is ever present and that this one infinite Mind is revealing to each one of God's children all he needs to know. Inspiration, illumination, consecration, and fulfillment are qualities of divine Mind that each one of us can comprehend and express. The spiritual fact in Christian Science that there is only one Mind and that man, as God's expression, reflects this one Mind is the real basis for unity and harmony among mankind.
