In the presence of my enemies

Prayer gives us a new perspective. In fact, it shows us that God is always with us, helping, protecting, and freeing us.

Enemies —sometimes the world seems so full of them! We usually think of them as people or things or conditions. Sometimes we may feel that co-workers or even family members are our enemies. We might count repressive governments, terrorists, famine, poverty, disease, as among our adversaries.

Yet if we really think about it, we may begin to see that these are not actually our enemies, although they may appear to be. We could consider our experience of having enemies as illustrating a mistaken belief on our part that God, the all-present, all-loving, and all-powerful, is somehow not present, is not in control.

In the Bible we can find many stories and teachings that enable us to understand and feel the infinite presence of divine Love, to recognize the illusory and mental nature of evil and thus to overcome our "enemies."
