At one time I began experiencing a severe stomach difficulty and was unable to eat or drink without considerable pain. As time went on, though I has short periods of relief from the pain, the nausea and weakness became progressively worse.

Mary Baker Eddy writes in Miscellaneous Writings, "To accomplish this [working out 'the sublime ends of human life'], you must give much time to self-examination and correction; you must control appetite, passion, pride, envy, evil-speaking, resentment, and each one of the innumerable errors that worketh or maketh a lie." I found much in my thinking that needed correcting. I needed to love more unconditionally, to express more patience, and to react less, among other things.

As I worked to understand man's spiritual perfection as in reality an idea of God, I held to the spiritual perfection truth that God feeds the body with purity, strength, and vitality. I thought often of Mrs. Eddy's poem "Love," which reads in part, "Fed by Thy love divine we live,/For Love alone is Life." And Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy states, "Immortal Mind feeds the body with supernal freshness and fairness, supplying it with beautiful images of thought and destroying the woes of sense which each day brings to a nearer tomb."
