More than fifty years ago Christian Science was introduced...
More than fifty years ago Christian Science was introduced to me in England shortly before I married. After our marriage my husband and I settled in a small village in Saskatchewan, Canada, where there was no church of any kind, and I asked him to give me Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy for Christmas. He sent away for it, and it was the most wonderful gift one could ever receive.
Before our baby was born that February, I went by train to a city a hundred miles away for the birth. When I returned home it was evident that I was not able to nurse the baby adequately, and she began losing weight. We tried various formulas, but she continued to lose weight. I was almost in despair.
I had heard of Christian Science practitioners, but I did not know how to get in touch with one. I wrote a letter asking for prayerful help and addressed it to "The Christian Science Practitioner, Winnipeg, Manitoba." It was delivered to the Christian Science Reading Room and then given to one of the practitioners in that city. She began to pray for the baby at once. Even before I received a written reply the child had begun to improve and was soon healed. From that time on, I was a dedicated student of Christian Science.
