I have seen many proofs of the power and love of God in my life. Because my parents were seeking a better understanding of God, they found and read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. As a result of this, my brothers and I were enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School. Although I did not begin wholehearted study of this teaching until a number of years later, the instruction of teachers in the Sunday School I had attended came to fruition in a time of need.

During wartime I felt alone and confused. It was then that I turned to God and prayed for direction. One day I got out a copy of Science and Health that had been stored in a suitcase on top of a cupboard. I was living with friends and had returned from work suffering with severe influenza. I started to read Science and Health and after a while realised that I felt quite well. One of my friends, who had been a medical nurse, was astonished. She said she had never seen anyone get well so quickly.

After this experience I began to study references in the Bible and Science and Health, as outlined in the Bible Lesson. I spent my lunch hours in a Christian Science Reading Room. This was followed by attendance at branch church services, then membership in a branch church and in The Mother Church.
