When I was a baby, my body started to reject every kind of food. Every time something was given to me to eat, I would throw it up again. My mother, who was not a Christian Scientist then, was frightened and thought she would lose her baby, since the doctors had given up hope and said I would most likely not survive. A very dear friend who was a student of Christian Science talked to my mother about God and how He cares for each of His children. Soon I was able to digest food normally. The healing was permanent, and we became active Christian Scientists after that.
Another healing I had many years later was one of a severe physical disorder. During a church activity I began to feel dizzy, and to my surprise I blacked out. When I regained consciousness I heard the fellow church member I was working with saying "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The spiritual assurance of this statement gave me strength to get on my feet again and be taken home.
Before long I started to have difficulty breathing and felt pain in the chest. Each symptom of illness that came was met with the spiritual truth that man in God's image is whole and perfect. Every time I was in pain I would affirm that God is my Life and that, as a hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal says, "In atmosphere of Love divine,/We live, and move, and breathe." P/>I kept on with my everyday duties and held to "the scientific statement of being," especially the last part, which states: "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." I recovered my normal breathing little by little, and after several months I was moving with full energy again.
