The words of the Psalmist "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits" have often stirred my heart with gratitude and now prompt this belated testimony for the blessing of Christian Science in my own upbringing and in raising my children.

I vividly remember an early healing I had through Science. I was seven and had been brought home from school with a diagnosed case of scarlet fever. My mother put me to bed with the assurance that I was God's perfect child and called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. When a doctor came later that evening to examine me and to quarantine the house, he could find no evidence of the disease. I attended school the next day.

As quick healings of measles, crushed fingers, sprains, and colds followed, I began to notice that each healing was preceded by a wonderful sense of well-being—a Christly presence. In retrospect, I am particularly grateful for the moral courage and expectancy of good with which my parents met severe financial reverses. They knew and proved that every right idea has its outward expression in accord with divine law, whether it meant a roof over our heads or a good education for my brother and me. They generously shared their love of Science with others, and my mother became a practitioner, serving in this capacity for over forty years.
