While I was biking with a friend on the Fourth of July, 1988, my front wheel hit a hole and I took a tumble. I landed on the side of my face, bruising my eye, and I also injured my ankle. Lying on the paved path, I quietly thought, "I am all right because God is here." After a few minutes my friend helped me up, and we went to a park bench where we sat and prayed.

Though I was dazed, I help to the spiritual fact that God is ever present. Little by little I was able to focus my thought on the fact that matter is not the basis of man's life, because man is the likeness of Spirit, God. I opened my thought for evidence of God's presence. At that moment a neighbor called out, "May I take you home?" I knew I could trust God's care unhesitatingly, and I was able to call out, "Thanks, but I can make it."

After some minutes we walked our bikes toward home and finally rode the last few blocks. My friend offered to wash my face, and this was done. We sat down and my friend read to me from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Listening carefully, I strove to understand more of Truth and to be sure my sense of Truth was correct. Science and Health states, "Even though you aver that the material senses are indispensable to man's existence or entity, you must change the human concept of life, and must at length know yourself spiritually and scientifically." This I tried to do with all my heart.
