Cities, neighbors, and changes of the heart

From small moments, incidents almost unnoticed, often come large lessons

Two young girls and their mother from the house across the street came to the door bringing warm food to a household faced with the loss of a loved family member. They were like touches of light appearing in the dimness of a winter evening. A few kind words were exchanged.

Nothing remarkable, but those were the first friendly words one member of the household had spoken to these neighbours in more than twenty years. Another family member, a Christian Scientist, had been praying quietly during those years, searching for God's view of her neighbours and for ways to love them.
